SOAR Program (Skilling for AI Readiness): India’s Vision for an AI-Ready Generation

In July 2025, the Government of India, through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), launched a landmark initiative called SOAR — Skilling for AI Readiness. Designed as a national AI skilling and literacy programme, SOAR aims to equip students, educators, and youth across the country with foundational knowledge in Artificial Intelligence (AI), laying the foundation for a future-ready India. Program Structure & Modules

SOAR adopts a structured curriculum with modular learning paths:

For Students (Classes 6–12)

Three progressive 15-hour modules introduce core AI concepts:

1. AI to be Aware
   • Introduces fundamental AI concepts
   • Explains how AI impacts daily life
   • Helps learners identify AI applications around them
2. AI to Acquire
   • Moves into hands-on understanding
   • Introduces basic tools and simple programming techniques
   • Encourages practical exploration of AI technologies
3. AI to Aspire
   • Focuses on broader aspects like ethics, societal impact, and AI careers
   • Helps learners envision future pathways in the AI economy

For Educators

An independent 45-hour “AI for Educators” module trains teachers to deliver AI education effectively, bridging gaps in teaching capabilities and ensuring quality learning outcomes. Learning Delivery & Outreach

SOAR uses a blended learning approach:

• Online courses through platforms like the Skill India Digital Hub

Recent Momentum — #SkillTheNation Challenge

On January 1, 2026, President Droupadi Murmu launched the #SkillTheNation Challenge under the SOAR umbrella—aimed at mobilising broad-based participation from youth, educators, institutions, and policymakers alike. This initiative elevates AI learning from classrooms to a national movement, encouraging widespread enrollment and AI certification. (President of India)
