National Space Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 26 announced to celebrate August 23, when India’s Chandrayaan-3 landed on the Moon, as National Space Day. He also announced that the spot where the lander landed on the Moon will be known as ‘Shivashakti’ and where Chandrayaan-2 touched down will be called as ‘Tiranga Point’.
The Prime Minister was addressing the scientists at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru, Karnataka. PM Modi said that experts suggest that in a few years, India’s space industry will become $16 billion from $8 billion.
PM Modi’s visit to ISRO in Bengaluru
- To congratulate ISRO team for the successful touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 landeron August 23, PM Modi visited to Bengaluru, immediately after returning from his two-nation visit to Greece and South Africa. He was accorded a warm reception as he arrived at the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru on Saturday morning.
- Afterwards, he also met the team of scientists with the Indian Space Research Organisation,who were involved in the mission. PM Modi joined the ISRO team in witnessing the historic landing of Vikram lander on Moon virtually from South Africa. At that time he was attending the 15th BRICS Summit.
- The Prime Minister was received personally by ISRO Chairman S Somanath.The two greeeted each other with a warm hug, which was more of a celebration of the successful culmination of the daunting lunar landing mission. He also posed for a group photo with the team of scientists behind the project. Later, PM Modi received the briefing of ISRO’s 40-day journey to the lunar South Pole by S Somanath.
- He said that Chandrayaan-2 left its footprint on the lunar surface in 2019. He also gave credit to the women scientists of ISRO in the success of India’s mission to moon.

According to PM Modi, India will observe August 23 as “National Space Day” to commemorate the success of Chandrayaan-3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended ISRO scientists for inspiring a generation and creating a lasting impression on children’s brains while speaking to a group of ISRO scientists in Bengaluru.
At the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the Prime Minister was speaking to scientists. According to experts, India’s space sector would grow to $16 billion in a few years from $8 billion, said PM Modi.
With the successful landing of the Chandrayaan 3 mission on the moon, all eyes are on the next phase of the Moon mission i.e., the Chandrayaan-4 Mission or Lunar Polar Exploration Mission (Lupex), which will be jointly launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
Tiranga Point on Moon
Prime Minister announced that the point where the Chandrayaan-2 lander left its footprint on the Moon would be known as “Tiranga Point”. The point where the Vikram lander touched down on the lunar surface would be named “Shiv Shakti”.

“The ‘Shivkshakti’ point (the location on the lunar South Pole where the ‘Vikram’ lander touched down) will encourage future generations to take up science seriously and use it for the welfare of people,” said the author. To commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 lander, Prime Minister Modi announced that the spot of the landing of the Vikram lander will be known as ‘Shivshakti’.
The Prime Minister commended the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s accomplishments while paying a crucial visit to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru. The designation of the Chandrayaan-3 moon lander landing location as the “Shiv Shakti Point” was one of the main attractions of this expedition. The Prime Minister added that India is positioned to be a key player in 21st-century global problem-solving to further emphasise the nation’s newly found confidence. India is poised to embark on a space exploration programme, and ISRO’s accomplishments, such as the difficult Chandrayaan-3 landing near the moon’s south pole, are testament of that.

PM Modi’s Visit to ISRO in Bengaluru
After returning from his two-nation tour of Greece and South Africa, PM Modi went to Bengaluru to congratulate the ISRO team on the successful touchdown of the Chandrayaan-3 lander on August 23. On Saturday morning, he was welcomed with open arms at the ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru.
The scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation who were a part of the trip were also introduced to him afterwards. From South Africa, PM Modi joined the ISRO team in virtually witnessing the historic Vikram lander’s Moon landing. He was there for the 15th BRICS Summit at the time.
ISRO Chairman S. Somanath personally greeted the Prime Minister. Warm hugs were exchanged as a form of greeting, more of a celebration of the successful conclusion of the challenging lunar landing mission. He additionally took a picture with the scientists working on the project. Later, S Somanath briefed PM Modi about ISRO’s 40-day trip to the lunar South Pole.
He claimed that Chandrayaan-2’s lunar footprint was left in 2019. He also acknowledged the contribution of ISRO’s female scientists to the achievement of India’s lunar mission.
