IndiaSkills Competition 2024

 

The IndiaSkills Competition 2024, India’s largest skill competition, began today at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka. The four-day event will host over 900 students from 30+ states and Union Territories competing in 61 skills, both traditional and technology-focused.

Participants, trained in various institutions, will showcase their skills in hopes of representing India at the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France. This platform not only empowers skilled youth but also fosters innovation and economic growth, contributing to India’s sustainable development goals.

Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, emphasised the event’s significance: “The IndiaSkills Competition opens new avenues of opportunity for the skilled youth, empowering them to dream beyond conventional boundaries and showcase their skills on the global stage.” He highlighted the alignment with the SDGs, stating, “This competition is a testament to our commitment to quality education, decent work, and fostering innovation for a sustainable future.”

The competition will award credits within the National Credit Framework, aligning with the National Skills Qualification Framework. This year, IndiaSkills introduces a competition information system called Qrencia.

Over 2.5 lakh candidates initially registered, with 900+ shortlisted for the national competition through a rigorous selection process. The event is supported by over 400 industry and academic partners, showcasing a collaborative effort to promote skills development and sustainable growth.

 

Overview:

The four-day nation’s biggest skill competition, IndiaSkills 2024, commenced in New Delhi on 15 May 2024. The inaugural ceremony was held at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi.

The skilling competition will test students’ skills across India in 61 categories from 15 -18 May 2024 and offer youth a platform to showcase their talent at national and international levels.

Organiser of the IndiaSkills Competition 2024 

The four day IndiaSkills Competition 2024 has been organised by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). NSDC is an apex skill development agency under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The IndiaSkills Competition is held every two years, supported by state governments, industry, Sector Skill Councils (SSCs), State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs), corporates, and partner institutes.

Selection of Students for the IndiaSkills Competition 2024 

Around 900 students from more than 30 states and Union Territories and over 400 industry experts are participating in the competitions.

The students were shortlisted from those students who registered themselves at the  Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) Portal.

Around 26,000 students were initially shortlisted from the 2.5 lakh students who registered at the portal. Out of these, around 900 were selected to participate in national-level events. The others will participate in district—and state-level competitions.

The students participating in the national-level competition have been trained in Indian Technical Institutes(ITIs), National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), Polytechnics, institutes of engineering, institutes of nursing, and institutes of biotechnology.

Number of Skills to be tested 

In IndiaSkills 2024, students will be tested in 61 skills ranging from traditional crafts like carpeting, jewellery making, etc, to modern cutting-edge technologies like drone filmmaking, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, Web Technologies, etc. Out of the selected 61 skills for the competition,

47 skills competitions will be held in New Delhi, while  14  skills competitions will be held in Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Significance of the SkillsIndia Competition 

The IndiaSkills Competition aims to demonstrate the highest standards of skilling and offers a platform for youth to showcase their talent at the national and international levels.

The bright students from the competition will be selected and provided further training by industry experts to represent India in the WorldSkills competition held in Lyon, France, in September 2024,

The WorldSkills Competition is held every two years, and the IndiaSkills Competition is held every two years to coincide with the WorldSkills event.
