Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is organizing a 5-day cultural festival named Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024 in New Delhi from January 13th-17th. Hosted at Pragati Maidan’s Bharat Mandapam, it will showcase the rich art, crafts and heritage of North-Eastern states.

Speaking at a media briefing, Secretary DoNER Chanchal Kumar described the Mahotsav as a meticulously curated platform blending traditional elements into one vibrant event. Envisioned as a cultural mosaic, it also aims to create economic opportunities by fostering trade in regional products and tourism offerings.
Key Details
The Secretary informed that around 250 artisans, weavers, farmers and entrepreneurs from the North-East will participate in the event. Focused panel discussions on women empowerment and youth workforce along with buyer-seller meetings have also been organized. The main attraction will be lively performances of traditional dance forms from different states.
Showcasing Distinctive Arts and Crafts
The exhibition-cum-festival will present exquisite handicraft items, indigenous fruits and organic products, textiles and apparel showcasing the North-East’s uniqueness. Participants can explore business collaborations across domains like handicrafts, handlooms, agro products and tourism.
Cultural Performances
The event promises an enchanting journey through folk dance performances like Satriya of Assam, Hojagiri of Tripura as well as a fashion show with North-Eastern flair. Other traditional art forms on display will include the Bamboo Dance of Mizoram, Bihu Dance of Assam and Wangala Dance of Meghalaya.
Spurring Economic Growth
By facilitating interactions between stakeholders, Uttar Purvi Mahotsav seeks to accelerate the North-East region’s business ecosystem and act as a catalyst for prosperity. The forum aims to connect thousands of artisans and entrepreneurs to national markets by blending culture and commerce.
